ALBANIAN BRAILLE

Cover

Bismillahir Rahman Araheem.

All praises are due to Allah Subhanu Wa Ta'ala and Peace and Salutations be upon our beloved Prophet Nabi Muhammad (SAW).

Alhamdullah, Madrassa An-Noor for the Blind has been blessed by the contribution of Moulana Nazir Malek and his wife from Albania. They spent over a week by us transcribing into Albanian Braille, a brief introduction book on Islam.

The title of the book is Basic Lessons of Islam (Mësime fillestare te fese Islame). This book has also been recorded in audio format. You can download the audiobook directly from our website.

With the faadil of Almighty Allah Subhana Ta'ala, many Blind people in Albania will now be able to benefit directly from these books. There is also a need to establish Qur'an Recitation Classes in Albania and Insha Allah, this will be part of our outreach program. Jazak Allah.

Letter of Moulana Nazir Malek:

As Salaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu.

I was blessed by the grace of Allah Ta'ala to visit and stay at Madrassa An-Noor for the Blind between the first and ninth of December 2019. The Institute was established by Moulana Hassan Murchie Saheb and is based in Cedara, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The institute is nestled in the hills around Pietermaritzburg and is luscious and very scenic.

There are forty two students from thirteen countries that are currently residing at the institute. I will not be inaccurate in my statement that those forty two students are equivalent to four hundred and fifty students. The classrooms are equipped with all kinds of amenities and educational aids to make the process of learning easy and comfortable for the blind students. The students are also provided with the necessary sporting equipment for the blind which they enjoy using in their spare time. A spacious swimming pool has also been built for the enjoyment of the students.

Besides the elementary books, I found the Holy Qur,an, books of Ahadith and a plethora of other books that were available in Arabic and English Braille script. There is also a dedicated Braille press that produces Braille books in many other languages.

Moulana Murchie first learnt the Braille language, and similar to Darul Uloom Deoband this institute began with one teacher and single student in 1986. I will not be inaccurate if I say that this institute is the Darul Uloom Deoband for the Blind. It is also a source of honour for our Alma Mater, Falahe Daarain, that one of its graduates has established this type of specialized institute. I have not come across a similar institute in the entire Indo-Pak sub continent.

When a new student enters the institute he is unable to read or write as compared with when he leaves the institute, he does not only leave as a Haafiz, Qari or Aalim but also as master in computers and the evolving technology for the blind. The students are also equipped with the necessary skills to tackle current issues globally.

We can gauge the level of Moulana's work by looking at the many branches that have been established worldwide. Similarity can be drawn to the Qur'aanic verse that says "the example of a good word is the like of a good tree, the roots are strong and firm while the branches reach the sky".

Students at sighted Madrassas become accustomed to the daily routine and mannerisms of their teachers and the institute whereas in this Madrassa, the institute and teachers have to become accustomed to the routine and needs of the students. I have witnessed very closely during my stay that a lot of patience and forbearance is required when dealing with such learners. It is a common sight during Salaah times to see students bumping into teachers similarly I saw students unknowingly kicking the shoes of their teachers around while entering or exiting the Salaah room. I was amazed to see that instead of a frown on the face of Moulana and the teachers, there was a smile and one teacher said that this is a daily occurrence.

During my stay, I also had the opportunity of learning Arabic Braille and by the Grace of Almighty Allah, I also managed to transcribe one of my previously compiled Albanian books into Braille as well as an audio rendition.

Finally, I pray that Almighty Allah accepts this amazing endeavour of Moulana Murchie Saheb and increase his efforts throughout the world. I also pray that Almighty Allah always protects him.

Ameen
