All Praise is due to Allah the Lord of the Worlds and Peace and Salutations be upon our Beloved Prophet Nabi Muhammad (PBUH).

With the Grace of Allah, we had the opportunity of travelling to Malawi, which is in the south-eastern part of Africa. Moulana Hassan Murchie and I departed on the 11 July 2019 for Lilongwe, Malawi. Moulana Saeed Umar who is one of the senior Ulama in Malawi met us at the airport and assisted us throughout our stay.

On Friday morning we travelled approximately 30 kilometres out of Lilongwe to an area called Bunda. As we drove through the sandy uneven roads we were elated to see a board which read " Madrassat-Tahfidhul Quraanil Karim for the Blind"

It was a truly emotional moment for us to meet with Hafez Jumuah Aufi who had completed his Hifz and Imaam Dawah course at our Madrassa and returned to His country in 2017. Hafez Jumuah, his wife and baby daughter, Sultanah live in a compound which consists of a house, a few classrooms and a cooking area. The plot also had a vegetable garden and small water well. We were pleased to learn that he has nine blind and partially sighted students living and studying at his Madrassa. He also teaches approximately thirty sighted students during the afternoons and is responsible for conducting the Jumuah salaah and Khutba at the nearby Musjid.

We handed over Braille Qur'ans, much needed Braille books and audio equipment which we had taken with us from Madrassa An Noor for the Blind in South Africa. Hafez Jumuah and his students were delighted and were looking forward to using the new material. The happiness and joy on their faces as they were treated to some chocolates was really heart warming.

On Friday night we gathered the Ulama from Lilongwe and discussed the plight of the blind in Malawi and Africa at large. The gathering was initiated with a recitation from the Braille Qur,an by Hafez Jumuah Aufi. Moulana Hassan Murchie then explained the challenges faced by the blind and the role that Ulama can play in their education and empowerment.

We request your Duas that Allah Ta'ala makes the endeavour of Hafez Jumuah successful and may he accept the efforts made to assist the blind all over the world . Ameen.

Jazak Allahu Khayran
